'Cadillac Frank' Salemme--Former Mafia Boss--Sentenced to Life in Prison
On September 11, The Associated Press released an article about Frank Salemme's sentencing (please see link below). According to the article, "Before being sentenced, Salemme stood up and said the "real story" will one day come out."
I hope so.
Certainly, Salemme is a scary guy. Certainly, he has been involved in the murder of many--after all, he was a Mafia Boss! The question is, was he involved in the murder of Steven DiSarro? Perhaps. And, if so, he should spend the rest of his life in prison.Â
But, what about Assistant US Attorney Fred Wyshak's star witness Steve Flemmi? Flemmi was identified as being present when DiSarro was killed. Why isn't Flemmi being sentenced to life in prison?
"Well, he's already in prison for life!" Some will declare, as The Associated Press mistakenly reported.
During Bulger's trial it was revealed that AUSA Wyshak filed a Rule 35 Motion for this same professional witness, Steve Flemmi. It was also revealed in testimony that at least $2 million in tainted assets were returned to Flemmi with, it seems, the assistance of Wyshak. After Bulger's trial, Flemmi was no longer listed as a federal prisoner.
The Associated Press article states, "The federal prosecutor, Fred Wyshak, called Salemme ruthless and barbaric and said he "richly deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison." Yet, Fred gave John Martorano a get out of the electric chair and jail card, as well as $26,000.00. Martorano confessed to 20 murders--including 2 teenagers who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Why isn't Martorano "ruthless and barbaric?" Why doesn't he "richly deserve to spend the rest of his life in prison?"
And let's not forget that Flemmi confessed to 10 murders--including that of his long-time girlfriend and step-daughter.
Then there's John Morris and Kevin Weeks; two more of Fred's favorites that got rewarded for murder! And, the list goes on....
Maybe it's time to investigate Fred's ruthless attitude toward those whom Martorano, Flemmi, Morris, and Weeks murdered. Murders he didn't even attempt to prosecute. Maybe Fred's barbaric attitude in forever tormenting families whose loved ones were brutally killed from ever having their day in court and the opportunity to obtain some closure, should be questioned. Perhaps it's time to demand an investigation into the immoral deals
Fred has given to his cooperating killers. When those in positions of authority take advantage of their power, and violate their oath of office, then they should be met with swift and severe punishment.
Maybe Fred has gone too far, and richly deserves to spend some time behind bars?
