Not All are Remembered on Memorial Day

Within the Boston US Attorney's Office is an assistant US attorney (AUSA) who has spent much of his career focused on the imprisonment of Whitey Bulger and FBI Agent John Connolly. The focus has been seemingly obsessive to the point of paying an enormous amount for testimony against Bulger and Connolly from criminals more villainous. Former FBI Agent John Morris was a confessed accessory in murders, and freely took gifts, trips, and money from 3 organized crime figures. He received no punishment in exchange for his testimony, and was promoted within the FBI and retired on a full pension.

John Martorano confessed to the murder of 20 souls, including 2 teens and his best friend. His payment? Escape from the electric chair; less than 6 months in prison for each murder; money supplied to him during his prison stay; $20,000 handed to him upon release; the freedom to promote and make money off his story -- with no restitution to his victims' families.

Steve Flemmi was involved in at least 17 murders, including that of his step-daughter and girlfriend. His payment? Escape from the death penalty; imprisoned in a luxury federal prison; the return of millions of dollars in tainted assets; the freedom to promote and make money off his story -- with no restitution to his victims' families. And a promise of early release from prison for cooperating with the AUSA overseeing the Bulger and Connolly trials.

How does this AUSA (and the MA US Attorney and federal judges involved) justify the payoff to these criminals for their questionable testimony? How can the combined 50 plus murders and enormous crimes of the star witnesses groomed by this AUSA weigh less in the scales of Justice than the murders and crimes of Bulger and Connolly?

It's obvious they don't. So why the determination to silence Bulger and Connolly? Could it be that they know the depth and details of the corruption within Boston's DOJ? This AUSA, it seems, received permission to use his power to ignore the lives of the 50 plus murdered by his star witnesses.
